Adopt-A-Senior program a big hit at Golden Living Center

Residents at the Golden Living Center were the recipients of a number of gifts Tuesday afternoon courtesy of the Adopt-A-Senior program sponsored by the Cheyenne County Community Center.

Kierston Richards, the activity director at the center, and Scott Borcher, the center’s senior community director, assisted with the four-year-old program.

Golden Living Center’s Activity Director Dawn Davis provides Richards and Borcher the names of each residents. The residents are given numbers and those numbers are then put on a bulletin board at the community center with the gifts that they want. The gifts were bought by local citizens who chose to participate and then were given to the residents at a party on Tuesday.

“It’s all a big surprise for them and it’s a way to help the community,” Borcher said. “They love it. Obviously this is the fourth year doing this program. The community just embraces it.

“We only had the gift list up at the community center for about a week and they were all gone,” he added. “There were 40-plus residents so the community was actually asking about them way before we got them out. It’s something the residents really like to help with.”
