1934 to 2014


Donna Pebley, 80 of Chappell, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2014 at the Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.

Cremation has taken place and services are planned for a later date, with details to be announced prior to services.

Donna Carlson Pebley was born March 25, 1934 at home on the Frank Carlson homestead to Alvin and Velma (Johnson) Carlson. She Attended country schools until the family moved to town. She then attended Chappell Public School where she graduated on May 23, 1952. While growing up one of her fondest memories is climbing the snow to stand on top of their house after the 1949 blizzard. She worked at the Fashion Plaza and Quigley’s coffee shop while in high school.

She attended Luther College in Wahoo and graduated with an Associate’s Degree on June 2, 1954. She then attended Chadron Teachers College graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education on July 27, 1961. Donna was very proud of the fact that she was only 3 credit hours away from receiving a Masters’ degree from Chadron State, but gave that up to raise her 2 step-children. She taught for 5 years in the Ogallala school system until she began teaching in the Chappell School system.

She married Kenneth Dale Pebley on May 31, 1964 at Berea Lutheran Church. To this union Kenneth brought with him 2 children; Mitchell Lee and Dustin Ranele which they would raise together. She was a lifelong member of Berea Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed, and just in the last few years, due to health reasons, started attending Grace Lutheran where she very active in reading scripture until unable for health reasons.

She retired from teaching in 1976 but worked at the farmers Elevator Company in the summer during harvest posting tickets for many more years. She took pride in her homemaking and won the hearts of nieces and nephews, her son-in-law and grandchildren with making all of their favorite meals and treats.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Kenneth, her children: Mitchell (Donna) Pebley of Aurora and Dustin (Terry) Brauer of Sidney; sister Carol Mason of Lincoln; grandchildren: Johnathan Pebley of Alliance, Nicole (Darin) Hornug of Burlington, Casey (Celeste) Brauer, Sidney, Ashley (Matthew) De Los Santos of Scottsbluff, Paige (Jeremy) Lohman of Sidney; niece Michelle (Bob)Michl of Lincoln; nephew Justin (Stacy) Mason of North Platte; Great grandchildren: Brayden and Madden Pebly; Peyton, David and Quinn Hornug; Collin, Cameron and Carissa Brauer; Uriah, Micah and Alijah De Los Santos and Jeremey and Damien Lohman and Great nephews: Cole and Brady Masson and Max Reinert.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Pebley family.
