Donald Farnsworth

1934 to 2015

Donald Farnsworth, 80 of Springfield, Mo., passed away Wed., Jan. 7, 2015. He was born March 12, 1934, in Carroll, Neb., to Harvey W. and Bernadette (Shannon) Farnsworth. Donald was raised in Sidney, and was attending St. Pat’s Academy, when he left to join the Navy during the Korean War. After serving in the Navy, he married Lois Lenz, Dec. 27, 1952. He worked in the aeronautical field in Southern California, and later at Salt River Utilities, in Phoenix, Ariz. Donald returned to Sidney to work for the City of Sidney Water Department. Donald married Carmen Hager Dec. 4, 1974. He worked many years for the City of Sidney, as a superintendent. Donald retired to take care of his wife, Carmen, who was terminally ill, until her death in February of 2003. Donald’s family describes his as a quiet man, and an avid reader. He enjoyed dining out, especially at the Elks Lodge, of which he was a member. Later in his life, Donald moved to Springfield, Mo. to be close to his son, Kevin.

Survivors include: his children; Rene Ehly, her husband Milt, of Potter, Kevin Farnsworth, his wife Deanna, of  Springfield, Mo., Shane Farnsworth, his wife Mindi, of Des Moines, IA; and a step son Richard Hinchman; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren siblings Janice Crabb, of Somerset, Ky., Patrick Farnsworth, and Joy Hoerler, of Texas; and his former wife, Lois.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, and his second wife, Carmen.

Cremation is under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial will take place in Sidney, Neb. at a later date.
