BOYS' AND GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Potter-Dix boys let 'W' slip away at Kimball

The Potter-Dix High boys' basketball team let a close game slip through their fingers in the fourth quarter Tuesday in a 56-42 setback to host Kimball Longhorns.

The Coyotes battled through a 22-19 half and stayed within that three-point margin after 24 minutes, 34-31. The trouble began over the final eight minutes when the Longhorns doubled up Potter-Dix 22-11.

The Coyotes were inserted as the fifth seed in the MAC Tournament which opens up next Tuesday. They will visit No. 4 Garden County in the opening round at 7 p.m.

In a warm-up to the MAC, the Coyotes hit the road to Dalton on Friday where they meet the Leyton Warriors.

Haxtun (Colo) 73,

Creek Valley 32

The Creek Valley Storm had a rough night at home on Tuesday as they were dropped by the Haxtun (Colo.) Bulldogs, 73-32.

The Storm slipped to 3-6 on the year while Haxtun advanced to 3-5 in a non-district boys' game.

Brett Godfrey and Dane McConnell each reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Colin Brott added seven.

GIRLS

Haxtun 67, Creek Valley 44

The Creek Valley Storm girls' basketball team had its three-game winning streak stopped at home by the Haxtun (Colo.) Lady Bulldogs 67-44 last night in Chappell.

The Storm slipped below .500 to 4-5 on the season.

Jill Behrends topped the Storm's scoresheet with 10 points. Jessie Straber added nine points and Allie Blackwelder eight. Hannah Schievelbein collected eight rebounds to lead the Storm.

Kimball 52, Potter-Dix 29

Despite their strong season to date, the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes had a small reversal of form at Kimball with a 52-29 loss to the Class C2 Longhorns.

Potter-Dix fell to 7-2 on the season and remain undefeated in district play at 5-0. Kimball's mark moved to 6-4.

Brooke Glass and Anna McLaughlin led the Coyotes' scores with nine and eight points respectively. Alexus Rozelle was strong on the glass as she collected 10 rebounds with McLaughlin pulling down seven. Danika Daum had an impressive night with 29 points for Kimball.

After taking on Leyton on the road on Friday and Hay Springs on Saturday, the Coyotes will enter the MAC tournament as the No. 1 seed and face No. 8 Minatare at home on Monday at 7 p.m.
