Earline Cox

1923 to 2015

Earline Cox, 91 of Sidney, passed away Wed., Feb. 4, 2015 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Feb. 11th in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel and Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Earline's care and funeral arrangements.

Earline P. Cox the eldest child of Earl Edgar and Christina Rebecca (Case) Bennett, was born on March 24, 1923 at Atkinson, Neb. She moved to Western Nebraska with her parents, living in Bayard and Gurley before moving to Sidney in 1930. After completing High School, Earline worked for the Sidney Telegraph and on Aug. 17, 1941 she was united in marriage to Oren O. Cox at Ogallala. She was a homemaker and mother of three children. Earline was active in her community and served in many ways including being a 4-H Leader, Brownie Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader. She taught Red Cross Swimming Lessons and Home Nursing for many years and served as Sunday School Teacher for more than thirty years. While her husband Oren served as Cheyenne County Deputy and County Sheriff, Earline served as Matron for the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office and assisted with jail and prisoner duties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member and Past President of Methodist Women's Society and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge #66.

Survivors include (2) daughters: Barbara Flick and husband Melvin of Mitchell and Patricia Printz and husband Bill of Sidney; (1) sister: Christina Kesselring and husband Leighton of Foley, Ala .; (1) sister-in-law: Charlotte Bennett of Olathe, Kan .; (10) grandchildren; (13) great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

Earline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oren, (6) brothers: Rev. Wilbur Bennett, Ed Bennett, Louis Bennett, Lee Roy Bennett, Elvin Bennett and Harold Bennett, her son: Larry Cox and (2) grandsons: Jeremy Cox and Jason Cox.
