BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Creek Valley High boys come up short against Perkins County

The Creek Valley Storm boys’ basketball team ran into the Class C2 Perkins County Plainsmen in Grant Tuesday night and came out on the short end of a 71-37 final in a non-district contest.

The Plainsmen (9-11) set the tone early in each half with a dominating first and third quarters.

Colin Brott and Brett Godfrey each had eight points to lead the Storm (3-12) in scoring. That pair also led on the boards with Godfrey collecting seven rebounds and Brott five.

Bayard 47, Leyton 38

Despite Cody McKay leading all scorers with 19 points, the Leyton Warriors came up short in a 47-38 decision in a non-district boys basketball contest in Bayard Tuesday night.

The Tigers (13-8) took a six-point lead into the second half and pressed their advantage with a 15-8 third quarter.

The Warriors are now 10-9.

GIRLS

Creek Valley 48, Perkins Co. 31

The Creek Valley Lady Storm was led by freshman Payje Misegadis’ 14 points in a 48-31 victory over Perkins County.

Bayard 41, Leyton 40

The Leyton Lady Warriors lost a heartbreaker to the Bayard Tigers Tuesday night in Bayard 41-40.

The Tigers (8-12) tied the score in the second half and took a one-point lead with 18 seconds left.

“We called a timeout there and I had a play called for a man-to-man defense but they came out with a 2-3 zone,” said Warriors’ head coach Nick Newkirk. “We were kind of stuck then without any timeouts left.”
