Applications accepted for Kreider Heartland Scholarship

Applications for the Kreider Heartland Scholarship are now being accepted.

The scholarship is in memory of Harold and Mabel Kreider, life-long residents of Lodgepole. Harold graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1933, while Mabel graduated from Chappell High School in 1940 – therefore they were in a sense “pioneers” of Creek Valley High. Mabel went to college at Kearney State College and received a teaching certificate.

During WWII, Mabel served her country at the Sioux Ordinance in Sidney, and Harold served in the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. After the war they were married and besides wheat farming, they owned and operated Kreider & Son Implement Company.

All graduating seniors are eligible for this $500 scholarship if they plan to pursue a college career, with an emphasis in education or agriculture. Any graduate planning to pursue a career in the U.S. military is also eligible.

Graduating seniors may acquire a scholarship application from Kathy Ford, guidance counselor at Creek Valley High School. The application deadline is April 1.
