Local businesspeople, companies collect awards at annual chamber banquet

Several awards were handed out Wednesday night at the annual Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce banquet held at the Sidney Elks Lodge.

The 2015 chairman, Brooke DeNovellis, officially took the gavel from 2014 chairman Paula Abbott at the event as well. DeNovellis is an agent with Farmers Insurance, while the outgoing chairman, Abbott, is the director of Western Nebraska Community College's Sidney Campus.

Chris Gabis served as the master of ceremonies at the event, which about 225 people attended.

The chamber's president and CEO Glenna Phelps-Aurich announced that the chamber had added 28 new members in 2014, pushing the total enrollment to more than 300.

Collecting awards on Wednesday were:

• Individual of the Year Who Provided Outstanding Customer Service: Rose Gray, a 37-year employee of Safeway.

• New Business of the Year: Bell Pole and Lumber

• Citizen of the Year: Judy Harris

• Supporter of the Year: Chris Tulloch of Cabela's

• Economic Project of the Year: Lodgepole Creek Apartments

• Outstanding Business Partner: Judy Morrison of Hillside Bar and Grill

• Retailer of the Year: Sonny's Super Foods

• E.K. Yanney Award: The Ladies Chamber

• Edna Anderson Award: George Perry

• Keep Sidney Beautiful Award: Wheat Belt Public Power District

• Friend of Tourism Award: Gina Elsen

Entertainment was provided by the Dueling Pianos Road Show of Denver, dinner was served by Cheyenne County 4-H members and Nathan Morgan sang the National Anthem.
