Schuyler Roy Elwell

Schuyler Roy Elwell, 26 of Potter, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, with Pastor Tom Hyde officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at Holechek Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon March 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions in Schuyler's name to The Humane Society of the U.S., First United Methodist Church in Sidney or the donor's choice as a memorial.

Schuyler Roy Elwell, the son of John Steuart Elwell and Judith Kay Elwell (nee Grimes) was born Sept. 12, 1988 in Sidney. He attended school in Potter and graduated from Sidney High School in 2007. Schuyler participated in football, basketball, track, baseball and golf in High School. Schuyler was confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Potter.

In 2009 Schuyler enlisted in the United States Navy and completed basic training in April of 2010. He achieved the rank of Medical Corpsman 3rd class and served in hospitals in Naples, Italy and San Diego, California. Schuyler enjoyed spending time with his grandfathers John and Roy and was a fan of the Huskers and the Broncos.

He is survived by his parents John S. Elwell of Sidney and Judith Grimes of Ravenna, Neb .; his sisters Elizabeth (Ryan) Sevcik and family of Omaha and Samantha Egging of Denver; his grandmothers Mary Jane Grimes of Lincoln and formerly of Lodgepole and Mildred Elwell of Sidney. Also surviving are uncles and aunts, Clifford Grimes (Connie) and family of Denver, Kim McCown and family of Lincoln, Ann (Ben) Darling and family of Sidney and Margaret (Brad) Ropp and family of East Lansing, Mich.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Roy Grimes of Lodgepole, John W. Elwell of Sidney and cousin John Wendell Ropp of East Lansing, Mich.
