Reader questions whether Smith is really conservative

Dear Editor:

Adrian Smith is just another establishment Republican. Nebraska’s 3rd District is just about the most conservative congressional district in the United States. Yet with a Heritage Scorecard of voting conservative just 60 percent of the time Smith ranks toward the middle to lower end of Republican congressmen.

Even John McCain on the Senate side votes more conservative. Recent votes bear out this out. In December, Smith voted with Nancy Pelosi for the Omnibus spending bill that fully funded all of

Obama’s agenda (except illegal amnesty) through September of this year. On Obama’s illegal amnesty (Homeland Security), Smith voted for the funding before he voted against it. (He voted against the bill once he saw it already had the necessary votes to pass).

Conservative congressmen have tried twice recently to remove John Boehner as House Speaker, yet Smith joined the RINO votes to retain Boehner as speaker. This last week Smith joined with Pelosi and other Democrats to pass the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 that Matt Kibbe, the president of FreedomWorks, called fiscally irresponsible.

Smith annually votes for the Farm Bill, which is laden with pork like food stamps, huge subsidies to Tyson Foods and much more. Smith is no conservative and it is time to start looking elsewhere.
