Man killed by police after wife apparently stabbed

Clark Drive in Sidney was blocked off Sunday evening as law enforcement officers established a perimeter and secured the scene in front of a residence where a woman with stab wounds had been found fleeing and her husband was later killed by police.

Sidney Police officers responded to the home on Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call, according to a release from the Cheyenne County Attorney’s Office.

Upon their arrival, officers saw Leasa Hlavinka fleeing from the residence.

After entering the house, police were confronted by her husband, Dana Hlavinka, who was armed with a knife.

Dana Hlavinka, 44, was fatally shot by police during a subsequent confrontation.

Leasa was rushed to the hospital for serious injuries. An update on her condition was unavailable as of 6:30 a.m. Monday.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the matter, and the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is handling the coroner’s investigation, according to the release.

Paul Schaub, Cheyenne County Attorney, will ask the district court judge to convene a grand jury a appoint a special acting county attorney to review the matter, the release added.
