Legion baseball teams plan camp, fundraisers

The Sidney American Legion baseball program will be holding three fundraisers in advance of its season opener on May 24.

First up, the Legion, in conjunction with the Cheyenne County Community Center, will hold a baseball camp at Legion Field this Sunday, April 26.

The camp will be broken into three different sessions based on age or position. From 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Session 1 will be held for those between 7-10 years old. For children between 11-14, Session 3 will run from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

In between, an hour-long Session 2 will focus exclusively on pitching and catching and for all age groups. Session 2 is scheduled for 2-3 p.m.

Sessions 1 and 3 will include training in base running, hitting, infield and outfield play and proper warmup techniques.

The cost for Sessions 1 or 3 is $25 and comes with a camp T-shirt. The bonus camp for pitchers and catchers is an addition $10.

A $50 Super Camp option is being offered for Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth travel players and includes all three camps and T-shirt.

For more information, contact the community center at 254-7000.

The following Sunday, May 3, the Legion will host its 4th Annual Silent Auction and Banquet. The event will run from 5-9 p.m. at Buffalo Point Restaurant.

The banquet will include a pork chop dinner and a silent auction with many items donated by Cabela’s. Legion hats and apparel will also be available.

The dinner is $20 per person with all proceeds going back to the baseball program.

Tickets for the event are being sold by the legion players. The players will also be serving up the fare. The banquet is limited to 150 people.

On Saturday, May 23, Post 17 will hold a golf tournament and silent auction to benefit the program.

The golf tournament will be a four-person scramble at Hillside Golf Course with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost per team is $300 and includes lunch.

Signs up will be available right up until tee off.

Should the event be rained out, it will be moved to the following day.

For more information, contact the golf course at 254-2311.
