New Potter-Dix superintendent brings 20 years of experience

Michael Williams will begin his tenure as superintendent for the Potter-Dix Public School District on July 1.

Williams, who grew up in Elmwood – 20 miles east of Lincoln – will be relocating to the area with his wife of 18 years, Amy, and their four children, ages 17, 14, 12 and 3.

For the past four years, Williams has been the superintendent at Maywood Public Schools. The first two years there, he was also the K-12 principal.

Before that, he worked at other schools in Nebraska and Missouri.

“I’ve got 20 years of administrative experience,” he said. “I’m certainly not going to say I’ve seen it all, but with 20 years of experience, the things I’ve been through, things I’ve seen, heard about, I can offer some experience and hopefully make a good situation even better.”

Potter-Dix schools are currently performing well on state tests and excel at extracurricular activities, and that’s fun to be a part of, he said.

“I think it is a good fit all the way around,” he added.

Williams is hoping to make a good school district even better.

“I hope what I can bring to the mix – any organization, even when things are going well, can always be looking to do something better,” he said. “Hopefully I can bring an idea or two that will make us more effective or more efficient in how we run.”

But he also wants to take his time in implementing any changes.

“One of the things that I really try to do when I come into a new school is to take my time and see how things operate,” he said. “I don’t make a lot of changes right off the bat. I want to see how things work, and if there are changes to need to be made, we can look at doing that, but that’s going to be after time has been taken to really study what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.”
