MORRILL – With Kaitlyn Berner leading the way with a win in the triple jump, the Leyton girls' track team finished in sixth place at the George Calvert Invite on Friday. The boys were one spot lower as they wound up in seventh.

While Berner took the triple jump by nearly a foot, she also added points to the Lady Warriors cause by her second in the 800 meters. When she teamed up with Dani McKay, Kristine Barnett and Cheyenne Nickel, the result was a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

Among the other medal placings for the girls, Abbe Draper finished second in the high jump. She also added points in the hurdles with a sixth in both the 100 and 300-meter distance. Shaela Jenkins, a two-time state qualifier in the 100 hurdles, was second in the event. While Taylor Berner made the low-hurdle finals, she just failed to medal.

In the boys' competition, Jake Ernest was the top Warriors' finisher as he took bronze in the shot put. Rhett Dye battled his way to fourth-place at 1,600 meters.
