1922 to 2015

Kathryn E. Schmidt, 93 of Sidney, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 10, 2015, at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14, in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Alm officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Star Legacy Foundation, 11305 Hawk High Court, Eden Prairie, MN 55347, in memory of Garrett Wimmer for stillbirth research.

Kathryn Elizabeth Schmidt, the daughter of Conrad and Anna Elizabeth (Schaneman) Brill was born on April 27, 1922 at Minatare. She attended school in the Haig area near Scottsbluff before returning to help full-time on the family farm. On March 12, 1943, Kathryn was united in marriage to LeRoy Schmidt in Scottsbluff. They lived on a farm near Sidney in the 1940s before moving into town and continue operating their farm. Following her husband's death in 1965, Kathryn worked at the Sidney Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in the housekeeping department. She retired in the mid-1980s.

As a young girl when Kathryn wasn't helping on the farm she was very active in girl's baseball and later was an avid follower of the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies Baseball teams. She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a Denver Broncos Football Fan, loved to crochet, working in her garden and cherished her family and was quick to help any friend in need.

Survivors include: (3) daughters: Donna Vass and husband Orville of Big Springs, Ruth Wimmer and husband Kent of Centennial and Mary Day of Roswell, N.M .; (1) sister-in-law: Darlene Brill of Gering; (10) grandchildren; (17) great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents: Conrad and Anna Brill, her husband: LeRoy, (1) daughter: Norma Goldtrap and husband Bob, (1) infant great-grandson: Garrett Wimmer, (1) brother: Conrad Brill, (4) sisters: Eva Schnell and husband Pete, Anna Brockett and husband Carl, Mary Fagler and husband Alex and Lydia Gabel and husband John.
