Creek Valley Storm golfer Brett Godfrey carded an 86 – his best score of the season – at the Oregon Trail Golf Course in Sutherland to qualify for the state tournament as an individual.
The team struggled to a ninth-place finish at the Class D-5 District tournament on Monday.
Perkins County won the district team title with a 359, while Crawford (377) and Sandhills/Thetford (385) rounded out the three teams that qualified for state. The Storm finished with 418 strokes.
“The team score was a little disappointing, but it was nice to see Brett play such a steady round,” said Storm head coach Cyd Hanson. “Brett had a triple bogey on one hole, but he played a very solid round outside of that one hole. He had a lot of birdie putts and really seemed to be playing in the zone.”
The other Storm scores included Joe Van Winkle (104), Austin Rowley (110), Wyatt McMillen (118) and Ben Cabela (134).
Godfrey, a sophomore, will head to state next Tuesday to play a practice round before the two-day competition gets underway on Wednesday, May 27.
The 2015 NSAA Class D State Golf Tournament will be played at Meadowlark Hills Country Club in Kearney. The first tee time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. MDT.
