1937 to 2015

Ruth Bartling, 78 of Lodgepole, passed away Friday morning, June 12, 2015 at her home north of Lodgepole.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in the Lion's Den in Chappell with Pastor Brent DeJong of Grace Community Fellowship officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole.

Memorials have been established to the Grace Community Fellowship, the Alzheimer's Association or the LAM Foundation.

There is no visitation at the funeral home, those who wish can stop and sign the register book on Tuesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Virol Ruth Bartling, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Mary (Studlar) Barnhart was born April 13, 1937 on the family farm in Cheyenne County south of Sunol. She attended the Sunol schools and graduated from Sunol High School. After graduation she worked for a time at Security Acceptance Company in Sidney.

On July 14, 1957 she was united in marriage to Marvin Bartling at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgepole. They made their home on a farm north of Lodgepole where she was a stay at home mom until the children were in school. At that time she began working as a cook at the Lodgepole schools, a position she held for over twenty-five years.

Ruth loved fishing, a pastime the whole family enjoyed. She also loved to cook and to sew. She tended a large garden of both vegetables and flowers. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and other family members.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin; her children: Valerie (Rich) Bond of Cambridge, Neb., Mark (Rita) Bartling of Lodgepole, John (Katie) Bartling of Douglas, Wyo., Julie Koza of Scottsbluff, Matt (Tammy) Bartling of Kearney, Kristina (Doran) Bush of Kimball and Robert (Kerri) Bartling of Elm Creek; three brothers: Eddie (Janet) Barnhart of North Platte, John (Carolyn) Barnhart of Lodgepole and Lucas (Donna) Barnhart of Greeley; two sisters Mary Lou Bartling of Sidney and Dorothy (Pete) Van Raay of Potter; one brother-in-law Gary Bartling of Potter; one sister in law Doris (Ray) Walker of San Bernardino, Calif .; 18 Grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a great-grandson Jackson.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Sidney is serving the Bartling family.
