1934 to 2015

Larry Wayne Rahe, 81 of Chappell, passed away on June 27 at Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney, with family at his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell.

Memorials have been established to the American Diabetes Association.

He was born on April 20, 1934 in Chappell, to John William Henry Rahe and Irene Moffat. His mother died shortly after childbirth. His father married Hilda Stahr, of Chappell in 1936, adding siblings, Donald, Dorothy, John, Rodney, Gary, Debra and Lana. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Chappell High School in 1952.

On March 3, 1956 he married Lois Ann Freeman. To this union two children were born, Fauneil Ann Rahe and Larry Lyneil Rahe.

On March 18, 1972 he was joined in marriage to Ilene Jurgens, adding three daughters, Patty, Sandy and Lorie.

Larry built Starlite Lanes Bowling Alley in Chappell in 1963 and managed it for many years. From 1981 to 2000 he was the Associate County Judge. Prior to 1979 and from 2000 to 2010 Larry served as Mayor and Councilman for the City of Chappell.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Chappell Lions Club. He announced Chappell football games for several years. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan holding season tickets for over 41 years. Larry was able to perform the wedding ceremonies for two of his granddaughters.

Larry is survived by one son, Larry Lyneil Rahe (Susan) of Chappell and daughters, Fauneil Dickerson (Bob) of Colorado Springs, Patty Kurz (Phil) of Sidney, Lorie Adkins (special friend Bart Bondegard) of Chappell and Sandy Jacobs of Sidney; sisters: Deb Bayne (Ron) of Chappell and Lana Hahn of Sterling; brothers: John Rahe (Barbara) of Dallas, Rodney Rahe (Patricia) of Haxtun, Colo. and Gary Rahe (Diane) of Holyoke, Colo., brother in-law Jim Steele of Nixon; grandchildren: Michael Rahe, Netanya Dickerson, Chad Dickerson, Shawn Dickerson, Chris Dickerson, Jamie Hanway, Alisa Darnall, Brian Kurz, Colette Kurz, Dawn Roth, Robert Shoopman & Richard Shoopman; 9 great-grandchildren; and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ilene Rahe, brother Donald Rahe, sister Dorothy Steele and brother in-law Doug Hahn.

Holechek Funeral Home and Cremations in Chappell is serving the Rahe family.
