Night of Hope Walk for Cancer on tap for Aug. 14

With a little less than a month to go, the Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation committee is working on finishing up the last-minute details for this year’s event.

The walk will be held Friday, Aug. 14 in Sidney’s Legion Park around the pond as in past years. The event will kick off at about 5:45 p.m. with the National Anthem followed by the inspirational “Survivor’s Lap.”

The evening will be filled with the return of a silent auction, BBQ, chair-ity auction, cookbook sales, face painting, autographed football raffle and more. The reading of the luminaries and viewing of the slide show will begin at dusk.

The Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation is an annual event that raises money to help those who have been diagnosed with the disease. Of the funds raised each year, 90 percent of the funds stay here in the area to assist with patient aid, scholarships and survivor retreats.

The other 10 percent is sent to the Eppley Cancer Research Center in Omaha and to “TEAM Jack” to assist them in cancer research. Through this event, the Night of Hope Foundation is able to reach out and touch the lives of many cancer patients who are in need of financial assistance.

Anyone who is under active treatment for cancer qualifies for the assistance offered by the Night of Hope Walk for Cancer Foundation. Patients need to reside in the local community and nearby surrounding towns such as Dalton, Gurley, Lodgepole, Sunol, Potter, Dix, Kimball, Chappell and Peetz, Colo. They don’t have to be receiving treatment in Sidney.

To apply for assistance, fill out a confidential application at the Dorwart Cancer Center, 830 Pine St..

To register to walk at this year’s event, the fee is $10 that includes a T-shirt. There is no fee for survivors, but they need to register so that they can get a shirt. People can walk as an individual or on a team.

For more information about the walk, call the Dorwart Cancer Center at (308) 254-9192 or Brenda at (308) 254-7308.
