Peetz sounds bell for new school year

The green and yellow decorated halls at Peetz Junior and Senior High School were bustling with students and teachers on the first day back Tuesday morning.

The middle school and high school students met in the gym to discuss the new school year. Student leaders of the school's clubs gave information about their respective organizations.

According to Superintendent Mark Collard, who is also the junior and senior high school principal, said he is ready for a new year of getting to know students.

This year, there are 157 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12 at Peetz Public Schools.

Collard said he's looking forward to giving the new students enrolled a great experience at Peetz.

"I am excited about our new staff that we added over the summer," Collard said. "We added a math and language arts position that will really bring some rigor and excellence to our math and language arts program."

New additions to the school includes English teacher Jennifer Janes, math teacher Jessica Schumacher and music instructor Jamie Wheelock. Janes and Schumacher are both graduates of Peetz High, while Wheelock is returning after a year away.

"We're really happy to have people from the community come back," Collard added. "I think we are all just excited for the school events to start back up like the sporting events, the school dances and the club activities."

The elementary students at Peetz return to their classrooms on Monday, Aug. 24.
