'Shootout' on tap in Kimball

Kimball County Tourism is hosting the second annual “Shootout at the Kimball Korral,” Series 1 and 2 Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition on Aug. 23-24.

Mounted Shooters will saddle up to demonstrate six-shooter skills, toting two single action .45 pistols on horseback to navigate four, timed courses along with a two stage mounted shotgun match.

“Riding horseback full out on a timed course isn’t easy,” said Jo Caskey, Kimball County’s tourism director. “Shooting at and hitting a target isn’t all that easy, either. But, doing both at the same time, Wow, that takes some serious practice and skill. It’s going to be exciting to watch,”

CMSA, started in 1993, and is a 13,000-plus member national organization that sanctions World Point Qualifier shooting competitions with divisions for men, women, seniors and youngsters.

The action starts each day at 10 a.m. at the Kimball Banner Fairgrounds.

Admission to the shootout is free for those 18 years and under. A suggested donation for adults is $5 per person, which will be donated to organizations helping with clean-up and general ground operations of the competition.
