Potter-Dix schools begin classes

Students and staff at Potter-Dix schools returned to classrooms Wednesday morning. At both the elementary and junior and senior high schools, students eased into the first day of school with classes ending at 11:15 a.m.

Mike Williams, who is in his first year as the school district's superintendent, said things were going well 30 minutes into the first day.

At the junior and senior high school in Potter, students met for a school-wide assembly at 8:05 a.m. The gathering began with the pledge of allegiance and then Principal Greg Morris addressed the students. He said tablets and lockers would be issued before a bell rang at 9 a.m., at which time students would begin a shortened schedule, meeting with their various classes.

"At 11:15, the bell will ring and we'll be done for the day," he added.

The school's teachers also took turn introducing themselves and explaining what classes they taught.

At the elementary school in Dix, students were in classrooms beginning the new year.

In Glynis Mueller's fifth-grade classroom, students took turns describing their summer vacations.

Thursday will be the first full day of school.
