WIC programs provide help for area residents

The Nebraska Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program provides healthy food at no cost, breastfeeding support for mothers and newborns and nutrition information to help keep pregnant women, infants and children under the age of 5 healthy and strong.

You are eligible if you live in Nebraska, are a pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding woman, or an infant or child under the age of 5. Fathers, guardians, or foster parents may apply for WIC for their children. You may qualify if you are within income guidelines. However, you automatically qualify for WIC if you currently receive ADC, SNAP, Kids Connection or Medicaid.

WIC provides a variety of healthy, nutritious foods including:

• Fresh fruits and vegetables

• Iron fortified cereals

• Whole grain bread, brown rice, corn, or whole wheat tortillas

• Canned or dried beans

• Milk & cheese

• Baby food

Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska provides services in Sidney, Gering, Kimball, Bridgeport and Oshkosh.
