Short-handed Bulldogs fall to North Park, 60-26

With four players and head coach Scott Sorensen ineligible for the season opener, the Peetz Bulldogs (0-1) struggled against district rival North Park (1-0) in a 60-26 loss in Peetz Friday night.

Since four Peetz players – Bryson Long, Jordan Nelson, Wolf Wenneker and Cody Wilson – participated in two padded camps over the summer, they and their coach were suspended for one game by the Colorado High School Activities Association last week.

Despite what turned out to be a lopsided loss, senior Garrin Cox rushed for 170 yards on 12 carries. Cole White picked up 87 yards on just three carries and Moot Wenneker had 73. Wenneker also amassed 87 return yards.

White added a 15-yard pass reception from freshman Zach Holtz. Holtz was pressed into service under center by the loss of starting quarterback Wolf Wenneker. Holtz also ran for 31 yards on a pair of carries.

Defensively, Shawn Bernhardt led the team with 12 tackles, including 11 solo. White brought down six ball carriers and freshman Gage Travis five.

The Bulldogs will be at full strength when they take on defending state champion Arickaree Indians at home on Friday at 7 p.m. Arickaree will be playing its first game of the season.
