Potter Days celebration in 84th year

The community of Potter is inviting locals to the 84th annual Potter Days celebration Sept. 3-6.

Events will kick off Thursday with the crowning of Miss Potter at Potter's Legion Hall at 7 p.m.

This year's Potter Days is celebrating the class of 1965, the largest graduating class from Potter High School.

On Friday, activities will begin at noon with burgers, pies, coffee and other treats from the Potter Youth Center stand. Children's activities will start downtown at 2 p.m. as well as an exhibit at the Village Shop.

Friday night will also include a Coyote volleyball game at Potter-Dix High School. Following the volleyball game will be a home football game at Combs Field against Morrill. Events following the football game will include fireworks and a glow-in-the-dark fun run downtown.

The annual parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. This year's theme is "Back in Black & White."

"We are really celebrating the graduating class of 1965," said Kirk Enevoldsen, a volunteer helping organize the festivities. "The school colors before Potter and Dix consolidated were Black and White, so the parade is going to be completely colorless to help celebrate the class."

After the parade will be the first co-ed sand volleyball tournament, a barbecue and Nebraska football at Bags' Bar or under the tent at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday will conclude with a free drawing and a street dance on Front Street.

The four-day celebration will wrap up on Sunday with a four-person scramble golf tournament.
