Sidney, Creek Valley compete at Gering

Raider girls finish third in cross country season opener

With 62 points, the Sidney girls' cross country team finished in third place at the Gering Invite on Friday at its season opener.

The Raiders were topped in the standings by the Scottsbluff Bearcats with 22 points and the Gering Bulldogs with 51. The 5K race was run at the Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering.

Leading the way for Sidney were Erin Lindeman and Jami Flores, who were 11th and 13th overall. Lindeman completed the course in 22:38 with Flores just seven seconds back. A pair of sophomores, Chantal Riggs (23:01) and Charlie Brockhaus (23:17), were the third and fourth runners to finish for the Raiders. The varsity finishers were completed by Abby Heller (23:29) and Mia Hernzndez (23:33).

Senior Preslie Allen, who missed the meet due to injury, is expected to return to the varsity lineup at the next meet.

Sidney will stretch its legs again on Friday at Littleton, Colo. The meet will get underway at 1 p.m.

SIDNEY BOYS

The Sidney Red Raiders boys' cross country team came home from the Gering Invite with a sixth-place finish in the field of 15.

Kelly Walsh (Wyo.), which had three runners finish in the top four, was the meet winner with 11 points while Scottsbluff (33) was second and host Gering (57) third. Sidney's total was 112.

Sophomore Mitch Porter was the first of the Raiders to cross the finish line as he came home in 19:08 to finish 18th overall. He was followed by Ryan Aurich (19:35), Jacob Schaub (19:39), Brenner Keane (19:52), Ryan Birner (19:56) and Logan Uhlir (20:33).

Sidney will travel with the girls on Friday to Littleton for its next meet at 1 p.m.

CREEK VALLEY

Colin Brott led the Creek Valley Storm cross country runners at the Gering Invite with his time of 21:52 in a deep field at Monument Shadows Golf Course on Friday.

Brott was followed by Cooper Reichman (22:05), Hunter Hendrickson (24:10), Nash Leef (24:32), Tanner Crass (25:30), Keith Everett (25:54), Joe Van Winkle (30:26) and Quentin Wentz (33:56).

The Storm had just one runner represent it in the girls competition with Noemi Marin finishing in 40:36.

Creek Valley will next compete at Kimball on Friday at the Four Winds Golf Course at noon.
