A public hearing about proposed changes to the SPNRD Districtwide Ground Water Management Area Rules and Regulations will be held Sept. 15. An information session will begin at 5 p.m. with the public hearing following at about 6:30 p.m. at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds in Sidney. Pairs-N-Half-A-Pair will have square dance lessons at the IOOF Hall, 800 N Street in Gering from 7 to 9 p.m. This is a free lesson and anyone from the community is invited to come and try it out. Please come.

WyoFiber Live! – an event that demonstrates all things fiber including crocheting, dyeing, felting, knitting, quilting, spinning, upcycling and weaving – will be held Sept 18-20 at the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site in Laramie, Wyo. Saturday, Sept. 19

All emergency response personnel are invited to attend Air Link’s free education day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff. The day will include hands-on skill stations and a presentation by the Nebraska State Patrol on crash dynamics, distracted driving and EMS on-scene safety. The Panhandle Quilt Guild will be having their monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015. Coffee and snacks at 9 a.m. followed by meeting at 9:30 a.m. This meeting will be held at West Way Christian Church, located at 1701 West 27th St. in Scottsbluff. Anyone interested in quilting, come be our guest.

Adopt-A-Dog Animal Rescue in Chappell, Nebraska, will be having a free will pulled pork barbecue on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015. The meal also includes potato salad, baked beans, and brownings. We will be having a silent auction with many great items. The barbecue and auction begin at 3 p.m. in the afternoon and run until dark. The Nancy Fawcett Memorial Library in Lodgepole has CANCELED the scheduled computer class on Sept. 20. Currently, there is not a rescheduled date to take the class.

Thursday, Sept. 24

The third annual “Newcomers Social” will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Sidney High School cafeteria. All are welcome, but new residents to Cheyenne County over the past 24 months have the chance to win a smoker/grill. A grilled cheese making contest will also be held again this year. The annual Oktoberfest festivities will be held in Sidney over the weekend of Oct. 2-4. There is continuous free entertainment in the tent at the Cheyenne Fairgrounds, a beer garden, ethnic food, craft show, downtown parade, farmer’s market, live dance bands Friday and Saturday, a car show and wiener dog races.
