Peetz rolls past Briggsdale, 63-33

BRIGGSDALE, Colo. – The Peetz Bulldogs' football team made a dramatic entrance into the winners' column at the expense of the Briggsdale Falcons in Briggsdale on Saturday afternoon.

After having several of its top guns out of its season opener and then losing a close contest to the defending state champions, Peetz recovered with a 63-33 pasting of the Falcons (2-2) on their home ground. The league win now gives the Bulldogs a mark of 1-2 on the season.

Peetz jumped on the Falcons early by taking an 18-6 lead after the opening quarter. The Bulldogs upped the pressure over the second 12 minutes and took a 43-19 lead at the half.

While the final 24 minutes had fewer offensive fireworks, Peetz still finished the contest with a 20-14 second-half advantage to complete the final 30-point margin of victory.

The Bulldogs' Jordan Nelson and Cody Wilson were again the offensive catalysts. Nelson rumbled his way to 271 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 16 carries. Wilson, meanwhile, piled up 79 yards on five carries and a pair of scores. Wilson also led the receiving corps with 74 yards on five catches with another two touchdowns.

Junior Cole White reeled in a 40-yard reception from Wolf Wenneker and ran back a kickoff return for a 50-yard touchdown. Wenneker threw for three touchdowns on the day, including the two to Wilson. White also had a sack on defense, as did freshman Gage Travis.

The defense had five players reach double-digit tackles, with Nelson leading the way at linebacker with 15. The others were Wilson (13), Garrin Cox (12), Bryson Long (12) and Wenneker (10). Cox caught two conversion passes and Moot Wenneker another.

The Bulldogs will travel to a neutral site on Friday when they meet South Park at Deer Trail, Colo. at 7 p.m.
