CV squad struggles among big schools

GERING – The Creek Valley Storm traveled to Monument Shadows Golf Course and were among 15 teams competing at the Gering Invite on Tuesday. With much of the field comprised of Class B teams, the Storm was one of just two Class D teams.

With just three players on its roster, the Storm was not eligible to for the team competition. While two of Creek Valley's players, Maddy Johnson and Jaden Criswell, have each medaled three times this season, they struggled at Monument Shadows.

Johnson scored a 124 over the picturesque par-72 layout, while Criswell came in at 131. Jo Hummermeier, who only began playing golf at the beginning of this season, finished with a 140.

"Maddy wasn't feeling well this morning, but that wasn't an excue," said Storm head coach Cyd Hanson. "It just wasn't their day today and maybe they were a little intimidated by the number of golfers here and some of the scores.

"They'll come back next time and be fine, I'm not worried about them," she added.

While the Gering course is an attractive layout, it's never quite suited Johnson's eye.

"I think this is my least favorite course," she said. "I tend to miss to the right and there are a lot of bad places you can find here if you miss right."

The Storm will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Ogallala. The shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m.
