Man, 18, arrested in break-in at local day care

The Sidney Police Department arrested a burglary suspect on Friday, just hours after a break-in at the Kid's Korner Childcare & Learning Korner Preschool located in the Cheyenne County Community Center in Sidney.

The day care staff contacted police early Friday morning after noticing the vandalism when they arrived for work.

According to Sidney Police Officer Jennifer Woodis in a court affidavit, upon arriving at the community center, she noticed a large spider-web crack to the glass on the main entrance door. Inside the day care facility, there was also an open window.

During the investigation, a day care employee was able to watch the security video footage. The video showed a white male wearing a black hooded jacket going through rooms and stealing candy from a candy jar as well as taking something from a desk. The male subject then sat down at the front desk in front of the computer and masturbated, according to the court documents.

A full picture of the suspect's face was taken from the security video, police said.

According to the document, the subject was identified as 18-year-old Dylan Hull of Sidney.

Two day care employees told police that a bag of smarties candies were missing from one of the classrooms as well as a gold church coin that was given to one of the employees from a student.

According to police, when they arrived at Hull's apartment they found wrapped "smarties" candy and a gold coin.

In the court document, Hull said that he blacked out and didn't remember anything from the previous night and morning. He said that he was hanging out with friends at the park at North and remembered going to Wal-Mart and purchasing candy.

He also stated that he did remember finding the coin by the railroad tracks, but didn't remember anything else, the curt documents stated.

Hull was charged with a burglary, a Class IIA felony.
