Cheyenne VA director to retire after 30 years

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Cheyenne VA Medical Center Director Cynthia McCormack has announced that she will retire from federal service on Oct. 31. She served 30 years within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

McCormack assumed the position of director at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center in August 2010. She joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1985 and has served in a variety of clinical and management positions. McCormack also served in the Wyoming Air National Guard, and deployed during Operation Desert Storm.

As director, McCormack successfully led the Cheyenne VA in providing healthcare to Veterans in rural communities throughout Southeast Wyoming, Northern Colorado and Western Nebraska.

"Dr. McCormack set in motion ground breaking initiatives in rural health and tele-medicine, patient aligned care teams, and behavioral health," said Paul Roberts, medical center associate director. "She is a change agent, and highly respected by our staff and Veterans alike."

McCormack was instrumental in developing a Veteran centric process improvement program, using the fundamental concepts of Lean Six Sigma, and under her leadership; the Cheyenne VA Medical Center experienced a 4.6 percent growth rate every year for the past five years – caring for more than 22,000 Veterans across three states.

"I have had a wonderful career with the VA," McCormack said, "and met many amazing people along the way. Serving our veterans these last five years has been the best. I am grateful for each of my staff members and proud of this organization."

The Cheyenne VA Medical Center oversees clinics in Sidney, Ft. Collins, Sterling, and Greeley, Colo.; and Rawlins, Laramie, Wheatland and Torrington, Wyo.
