Leyton loses in five sets at home

The Leyton High School volleyball team lost a tough, five-set match Thursday night against visiting Crawford. The Lady Warriors fell 25-15, 13-25, 25-21, 17-25, 17-15.

Leyton slipped to 19-8, while Crawford improved to 10-11.

“This was a hard-fought match between our two teams,” said Leyton head coach Jodi Craig. “Too many unforced errors cost us the win. We had several opportunities to capitalize on their mistakes or missed serves, and simply didn’t.”

“Defensively, Cheyenne Nickel and Natalie Cruise dug the ball well, and Diedra Waite put up strong blocks at the net,” Craig added.

Waite and Cruise had 10 kills apiece to pace the Leyton attack. Waite also had 28 digs, eight blocks and four aces and Cruise added 32 digs.

Also for the Lady Warriors, Nickel had 32 digs and three aces, Kristine Barnett contributed 28 digs and Taylor Berner recorded 29 assists and three aces.

Leyton is back in action Tuesday when it hosts a triangular with Banner County (4-15) and South Platte (6-12).

The first match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
