STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS: Sidney girls capture 3rd at state

Boys take seventh place

The Sidney High School girls’ cross country team captured third place at Friday’s Class C State Cross Country Championships at Kearney Country Club.

Led by senior Jami Flores’ 13th-place finish, the Lady Raiders had four runners cross the finish line in the top 33 among the 89 runners.

Flores covered the 5,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 6 seconds. She was followed by teammates Chantal Riggs (18th, 21:18), Erin Lindeman (22nd, 21:31), Preslie Allen (33rd, 21:55), Charlie Brockhaus (59th, 23:17) and Abby Heller (74th, 24:27).

The Lady Raiders totaled 56 points, just one point behind state runner-up Cozad. Boone Central/Newman Grove won the Class C title with 39 points.

The Red Raider boys’ team finished seventh with 86 points. Milford won the Class C boys’ championship with 61 points.

Junior Ryan Aurich was Sidney’s top finisher, taking 21st overall in 18:09.

Senior Jacob Schaub was 23rd (18:10) and Mitch Porter took 26th (18:17).

The Red Raiders’ other finishers among the 91 runners in the boys’ race were: Will Castner (41st, 18:35), Brenner Keane (47th, 18:49) and Collin Brauer (51st, 18:51).
