1923 to 2015

 

Verena M. Lessman, 91 of Dalton, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 22, 2015 at Skyview of Bridgeport.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29 in the United Church of the Plains, Trinity Site with Pastors Eric Alm and Leon "Bud" Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Verena's name to Trinity Church or the Lutheran Hour. Verena M. Lessman, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Cooper) Heine, was born on Dec. 16, 1923 northwest of Gurley. On April 27, 1942, Verena was united in marriage to Edward Charles Lessman in Cook County, Chicago, Ill. Following Edward's discharge from the Army, they moved into their home in Dalton where they raised three sons, Lonnie, Larry and Milan. Verena lived in the same house until her passing. She spent a lifetime being a hardworking farm wife, mother and grandmother. Verena worked at Rudy Munderloh's Grocery Store in Gurley, Heizer's Grocery in Dalton and the Post Office in Dalton. She was a member of her church's UCW, United Church Women.


Survivors include her husband of seventy-three years: Edward of Dalton; (3) sons: Lonnie and wife Carilyn and Larry and wife Becky of all of Fort Collins, Colo. and Milan and wife Cindy of Dalton; (6) grandchildren and (9) great-grandchildren.

Verena was preceded in death by her parents, (4) sisters and (4) brothers.
