WNCC offers free haircuts to veterans

The Western Nebraska Community College cosmetology program in Sidney will offer free haircuts to veterans with an event called “Red, White, and Blue, Honoring You.”

Veterans and active duty military may receive their free haircut at the WNCC Salon, located on the Sidney campus, between Nov. 10-24. The free hair cuts will be offered on Tuesdays from noon to 6:15 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 4:15 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Cosmetology students are providing free haircuts at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9. Active or former military simply need to show their military identification to receive a free haircut.

“We had a great turnout last year and we’re hoping for an even larger response this year,” said Pamela Leever, cosmetology instructor. “We would like to thank all our veterans for their service.”

The WNCC Sidney campus offers the only publicly funded cosmetology program in the state. The department also sponsors free spa days for cancer survivors every October.
