Sidney Regional hosts kids health fair

Children's health and well-being were the focuses of attention at the first Sidney Regional Medical Center kids health fair on Saturday.

The "All About Kids Health Adventure" was held at the Cheyenne County Community Center and included more than a dozen local groups and organizations.

Tammy Meier, a community health nurse at SRMC, said children and their parents were able to learn about nutrition, physical activity and drug awareness at the many booths.

The idea for the event came out of a community health needs assessment, said Randi Norton, who works in the hospital's public relations and marketing department.

"And rather than calling it a health fair, we wanted it to be fun and interactive but still educational," she explained. "So we called it an adventure, and it's just a way to get parents and kids both active in the child's health and well-being."

Meier said there was large community support for the endeavor.

"We're really thankful that they came on board with us," she said.

Although it's only the first year of the kids health fair, there are plans to make it an annual event.

"And we hope to grow it and add other things," Meier said.
