1917 to 2015

Doris D. Thomas, 98 of Sidney, passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care, Friday, Oct. 30, 2015.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday to sign Doris' register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Doris' name to the church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Doris Dean Tutt was born Aug. 6, 1917 in Shenandoah, IA. Doris was the second child of John Elliot Tutt and Ethel Gertrude (Davis) Tutt. John was a longshoreman and died in Nov. of 1918 of the Influenza Epidemic of 1917 to 1918. Baby Doris was very sick and the doctors didn't expect her to survive. Doris was baptized in Shenandoah, IA. When she was two years old, Ethel and her two girls Helen and Doris moved to Potter where she met and later married a widower, John Evan Stines. Doris grew up in Potter and graduated from Potter High School. She met and later married Harold Henry Thomas of Sidney. Doris was confirmed on Dec. 31, 1937 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Doris and Harold farmed south of Sidney until 1954 when they moved into town. Doris and Harold had two children, Nadine Carroll (Thomas) Wright and Darold Dwayne Thomas. Doris loved her family dearly. She was a great fan of the University of Nebraska Football Team and loved fishing and watching Wrens and Hummingbirds in her yard.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband: Harold H. Thomas, her fathers: John Tutt and Evan Stines; her mother: Ethel (Tutt) Stines; her brothers: Maynard, Ronald and Kenneth Stines; her sisters: Helen Ross, Lynn Saali, Merle Morrison, Ruth Miller and Jean Hixon.

Survivors include her children: Nadine Carroll Wright and Darold D. Thomas and wife Pamela; (4) grandchildren: Dori S. Thomas-Rose, Darin A. Wright, Tegwin Starr (Wright) Moreno and HJay T. Wright; (8) great-grandchildren: Victoria S. Thomas-Rose, Christopher D. Rose, Makayla B. L. Rose, Keeley Laree Wright, Quinton M. Moreno, Brice T. Moreno, Victoria L. Wright and Alexis R. M. Wright; (1) great-great-granddaughter; (1) sister: Maxine Hays and special nieces: Lynn Susan White and husband Mike and their daughters, Lindsey White and Caitlin Swan and husband Jacob, Georgette Ockinga and Valerie Nienhueser.
