Elmer I. Jung

1931 to 2015

Elmer I. Jung, 84 of Potter, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Sidney, Saturday evening, Nov. 7, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 12 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Potter Volunteer Fire Department or to the church.

Elmer Irving Jung, the son of George and Mabel (Kelle) Jung, was born on the family homestead on July 16, 1931. Elmer was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Potter. He attended St. Paul's Parochial School until 1947 and Potter High School. On Dec. 20, 1953, Elmer was united in marriage to Ruby Mitchell at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sidney. He worked at Conoco, Texaco and then managed the Co-op in Sidney and Potter for twenty-five years. Following his retirement from Co-op, he worked as a mechanic in the Potter Bus Barn, retiring in 2000.

Elmer was an active member of the Bunker Hill Baseball Team, enjoyed singing and sang in the men's quartet, "Alley Cats" from 1951 to 1955. He also loved to farm, tinkering in his shop and fixing lawn mowers for others. Elmer was a member of Potter VFD and a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He will be happily remembered by his stories about his brothers and sisters, always had a joke to tell and his contagious smile will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years: Ruby of Potter; his children: Catherine Saali and husband William and their children: Tracy and Daniel all of Sidney and Jerry and Randy Jung of Potter; (1) sister: Leona Gaston of Potter; (2) brothers: Alferd Jung and wife LaDonna of Sidney and Harvey Jung and wife Janet of Potter and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, (1) daughter: Melody Jung (April 2015); (2) brothers: Art Jung and wife Leota, Leonard Jung and wife Edith; (1) sister: Lorna Nuss and husband Hilmer and brother-in-law: Bud Gaston.
