Irrigation and nitrogen training available online

For the first time, irrigators will have the option to obtain their irrigation and nitrogen certificate through an online course designed to make it easier to complete the necessary training and achieve certification for the next four years.

All irrigators in the district area will have until March 1, 2016, to complete their training and earn their certificate. The course will be available by the end of December.

“It is hoped that many irrigators will take the opportunity to complete the training in the comfort of their own home on their own time,” said Donald Davis, information and education coordinator for the South Platte NRD. “I have been on the site and it is easy to understand and offers videos and an online course book to review before taking the test.”

The course, offered through the University of Nebraska Extension website, will give irrigators the option of attempting to test out or to view videos and read the online course book before taking a test at the end of each section. After passing the general questions sections, the irrigator with then be directed to the South Platte NRD tab where they will be able to watch a short PowerPoint presentation and complete a series of questions specific to the South Platte NRD. After passing all the necessary sections, the irrigator will immediately earn their certificate which they can print out from their computer.

Hard copies of the course books are available for free at the South Platte NRD offices located at 551 Parkland Drive in Sidney or they can be mailed to an irrigator by request by calling the South Platte NRD at 308-254-2377 or e-mail at [email protected]. Irrigators can also contact Davis at the district offices via a phone call or e-mail with questions regarding the Irrigation and Nitrogen Online training. Additional information will be available on the district website at http://www.spnrd.org.
