Raised on a farm West of Chappell, she was instilled with a strong work ethic; doing her share of chores, milking, gardening, cooking, canning, sewing and tending animals to help her parents maintain a smoothly running family farm. Known for her wonderful entertaining dinners for holidays and other occasions, she excelled with great pies, cakes, breads, pastries and home canned goods. She set a high standard for "Home Cooking" and her dinner invites were always quickly accepted.

Lula Mae was the first woman to be appointed to a Deuel County jury and also served the community with various civic duties such as election ballot counting, Deuel County Fair produce display planning, and other activities. She was well loved by family and community for her caring heart and will be missed by all who knew her. "Well done good and faithful servant..." Matthew 25:23.
