Lady Coyotes get back-to-back wins to open season

The Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes opened their regular basketball season with back-to-back wins.

The winning weekend began with a successful 48-38 win against Sedgwick County in Julesburg, Colo.

Sophomore Audrey Juelfs led scoring for the effort with 10 points, followed by Brooke Glass with eight. Payge Hoffman and Dawson Sharman each contributed seven points, while Trinity Langley and Cortney Lewis added six points each.

Juelfs made one of six three-points attempts, Sharman tried three 3-point shots and made one, and Glass made both of her three-pointers.

Rozelle led the team in rebounding with a total of 11, followed by Lewis with 10. Juelfs added five, and Glass and Hoffman each two defensive rebounds.

The Lady Coyotes chalked up their second win, 54-22, on Saturday when they hosted the Banner County Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Coyotes ended the first quarter with a 17-4 lead and added another 13 points by the end of the second quarter, while allowing their opponents just four additional points in the second quarter.

Potter-Dix came back nearly as strong following halftime and added 12 more to the scoreboard, but allowed four successful shots for Banner County in the third quarter.

In the last quarter of play Banner County added six more points to the scoreboard, but the Lady Coyotes outplayed them once again, adding 12.

The Lady Coyotes played a strong defense, charting just four blocked shots total but racking up 16 deflections throughout the game.

Sharman led the Coyotes in points with 14, followed by Langley with 11. Glass added nine, Hoffman chipped in with seven, and junior Alexus Rozelle with six.

Though starter Audrey Juelfs was not a top scorer, she contributed 13 total rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals to the Lady Coyote cause.

Langley had 10 rebounds total and added another two steals, while Rozelle and Hoffman each racked up six rebounds.
