Potter-Dix one act team takes runner-up at state

Potter-Dix took home second place at the state one act play competition in Norfolk Wednesday night, adding to its strong history in the competition.

The team performed "Eurydice" by Sarah Ruhl at the Johnny Carson Theatre.

According to the team's sponsor, Beth Bogert, the group had three members receive outstanding acting awards. Sam Bogert, Dawson Sharman and Noah Nelson received recognition for their performances.

The team's technical crew was also named the best tech crew that competed.

"The team gave the best performance yet, it was very emotional. They gave it their all and made me very proud to be their director," Bogert said. "Our technical crew had 15 minutes to set up the stage, 20 various lights, three fog machines and other props. The light crew had only a few minutes to practice on the new equipment and they ran it flawlessly."

Bogert added that the whole team worked as one to set up and tear down the stage in a short amount of time.

Leigh won the state title with a performance of "Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some)." The three judges unanimously voted in favor of Leigh.

The runner-up finish was another strong performance at state for Potter-Dix. The school has won nine state one act championships, with the last state title coming in 2005. Prior to this year, the school had one additional second place performance, which was in 2003. Potter-Dix finished third in 1987 and 2009.
