Erma C. Doggett

1929 to 2015

Erma C. Doggett, 86 of Anchorage, AK and former Cheyenne County resident, passed away at her home on Friday, Dec. 11.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made in Erma's name to the Changepoint Church or the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission, POB 230510, Anchorage, AK 99523. Erma Crosby, daughter of Murrel and Bernice (Williams) Crosby was born at home in Cheyenne County on Oct. 20, 1929. She attended schools in Cheyenne County and graduated from Sunol High School in 1947. Later that year she attended Kearney State Teacher's College and in December was elected the first Wheat Queen for the State of Nebraska. She married Gale (Curly) Doggett Feb. 14, 1948. She taught school in Cheyenne County Schools for three years. The couple made many sacrifices (including living in a one-room house with 3 children) to create two auto salvage businesses which they operated, until a serious accident prevented Gale from working in the business. Later they started a trucking business operating in Nebraska and other western states before moving to Alaska in 1975. Erma began attending the University of Alaska where she received her Degree in Accounting and was employed with MTNT for several years. Her work moved her to McGrath for three years. While there she helped at a McGrath checkpoint for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Erma continued to work with the trucking business while being employed as an accountant until retiring in 2004. She enjoyed participating with political organizations, The Anchorage Tea Party and Conservative Patriots Group.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, Tim Terry, and Brett, one granddaughter, Kari Rose; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Max and Bonnie Doggett and Dick and Elaine Doggett and brother-in-law Jim Oliverius.

She is survived by three sons, Rex (Marcy) Spokane, Wa., Jack (Arminda) Anchorage, AK and Mike (Juliann) Saugus, Calfi .; ten grandsons, two granddaughters, four granddaughters–in-law, five great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters; one sister, Shirley Oliverius of Sidney and many cherished relatives and in-laws.
