Leyton Warriors boys' squad take win over Banner County, loss to Hemingford

The Leyton Warriors boys’ basketball team took a split at home over the weekend as they defeated Banner County on Friday night and fell in a close game Saturday to Hemingford.

The Warriors are now 3-3 overall, though they are still tied with Creek Valley in D1-12 standings at 2-0.

Leyton 62, Banner County 20

The Warriors started off with the win against the Wildcats, moving the squad from Harrisburg to 0-5 on the season.

For the Warriors, juniors Skylar Schumacher, Martin Broyer and Teagan Brogren were the leading scorers and offensive engines for the team, putting up eight points each. Another six points each came from Zach Hellie, Kenny Ernest, Teghan Osborne and Jeffrey Deal.

From beyond the arc, Osborne seemed unstoppable as the senior went 2-of-3 from three-point land.

On the defensive side, Brogan led with nine rebounds and had an assist and a steal. Osborne tallied up six steals.

Other scorers for Leyton were: Morley Haley (4), Josh Kruse (4), Jacob Ernest (4) and Aaron Schrotberger (2).

Hemingford 46, Leyton 40

The Warriors fell on Saturday to the Bobcats in a game that saw Leyton trailing by only one point, 13-12, at the halftime buzzer.

Hemingford laid it on and took the win thanks to some clutch three-pointers in the fourth period.

Osborne led for the Warriors with 14 points and he also recorded seven steals, two assists and six rebounds. Hellie and Kenny Ernest were the most active under the baskets, garnering eight rebounds apiece.

Other scorers were: Kenny Ernest (9), Schumacher (8), Hellie (5), Jacob Ernest (2) and Boyer (2).
