Sidney takes third at Chase County

The Sidney wrestling team had a pair of first place finishes as it took third as a team Saturday at the Chase County Tournament.

Trey Arellano (106) and Kaden Vowers (113) each won their respective weight classes for the Raiders.

Arellano topped Evan Nordhausen of Wauneta-Palisade by fall in 43 seconds in the quarterfinal match, took out Matthew Wissink of Dundy County-Stratton by fall in 1:29, and then won in the finals by fall in 3:36 over Zach Janousek of Hitchcock County.

After a first round bye, Vowers topped Trent Hilburn of Dundy County-Stratton by fall in 46 seconds, won over Hershey’s Kyle Jackson by fall in 53 seconds and defeated Tate Cross of Garden County in the semifinals with a win by fall in 2:40. In the finals, Vowers won with a 3-2 decision over Alex Araujo of Bayard.

Vowers was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament for his efforts.

Three Raider wrestlers finished second at Chase County. Sidney’s Devon Schilz took second in the 120 weight class, falling to Mitchell McKibbin of Bayard in the finals. Jack Feddersen lost in the finals of the 132 weight class to Kiffen Cook of Perkins County, and Seth McMillen fell to Grant Packard of Ogallala in the finals of the 285 weight class.

Also for Sidney, Tristan Ahrendt (120) and Bret Jaggers (138) each took third place, while Nathan Cuello (170) and Kade Price (195) each finished fourth.

The Raiders are back in action Thursday with a dual at Sedgwick County, Colo., then travel Saturday to the Lexington Tournament.
