Bayard girls, Garden County boys win consolation rounds at MAC tourney

Bayard rallied with a strong fourth quarter effort to defeat Leyton, 32-27, in the girls consolation of the Minuteman Activities Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Lady Tigers (4-11) trailed 20-12 heading into the fourth quarter when they outscored the second-seeded Lady Warriors 20-7 in the comeback victory.

Diedra Waite led Leyton (7-6) offensively with 13 points, while Katie Higgins added 8 points. Natalie Cruise had a team-high 15 rebounds, while Abbe Draber and Higgins chipped in with 8 each.

Kylie Stewart had a team-high 11 points for Bayard, while Jessi Smith added 10.

Boys consolation

Garden County 45, Minatare 34

In the MAC boys consolation game Saturday afternoon, Garden County got off to a strong start in a 45-34 win over Minatare.

The third-seeded Eagles move to 7-6 with the win, while the top-seeded Indians fell to 7-4 with the loss.

Nick Koppman led Garden County offensively with 11 points, while Elliot Epp chipped in with 10 points. Yovan Perez led Minatare with 18 points, while Dominic Longoria added 12 points.
