Robb, Arellano win at Lexington tournament

Two Sidney wrestlers took first place and the Raiders finished seventh as a team at Saturday's John Higgins Invitational Tournament held at Lexington.

Derek Robb took first in the 152 weight class and Trey Arellano won the 106 weight class at Saturday's meet.

Also for Sidney, Kaden Vowers finished third in the 113 weight class and KC Higer took fourth in the 126 weight class.

After a first round bye, Robb had wins over Devin Anthony of Hastings and Tyler Caratena of Lincoln Southwest on his way to the finals. He bested Wyatt Hayes of Scott City with a 7-3 decision to win the 152 weight class.

Arellano opened with wins over Trei Williamson and Blayne Kile en route to the finals. He won over Camden Russell of Millard West to take the title in the 106 weight class.

Vowers opened in the 113 weight class with two wins, before falling to Zachary Tucker of Scott City in the semifinals. In the third place match, he won with a 6-3 decision over Eric Rojo of Holyoke.

In the 126 weight class, Higer had a quarterfinal win before falling in the semifinals. In the third place match, he lost a 6-1 decision to Nick Sadd of Hastings.

Also for Sidney, Colton Peckham dropped his opening round match in the 120 weight class before coming back with a win in the second consolation round. He lost in the third consolation round to Ben Garland of Beatrice.

Patraic Hays (170) and Cody Hofrock (220) also had a win each on Saturday for Sidney.

Bennington won the team title with 193 points, while Millward West finished second with 174.5 points and Lincoln Southwest took third with 156. Sidney had 89.5 points to tie with homestanding Lexington.
