Lady Raiders split weekend games

The Sidney High Lady Raiders split a pair of weekend games. On Friday, Sidney lost in overtime to Chadron, 52-49, and on Saturday, the team defeated Hershey, 44-34.

The Lady Raiders (13-5) will play at Gering on Friday.

Against Chadron (14-2), Sidney dominated the first three quarters of play. In the final period of regulation, however, the Lady Cardinals overcame Sidney's lead and hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. After trading scores on successive possessions, Chadron intercepted a Sidney inbounds pass and took the lead.

Janay Brauer led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, and Kelsey Knight had 12. Sidney's Emily Mahr scored three points in overtime – the Lady Raiders' only baskets.

En route to its victory, Chadron outscored Sidney 23-10 in the fourth quarter.

On Saturday, the Lady Raiders returned to the court and handily defeated Hershey (9-10).

Sidney went into halftime up by two points and scored 20 points in the second half to Hershey's 12. The Lady Raiders held the Panthers to a single basket in the final quarter.

Mahr led Sidney with nine points, followed by Jasmine Jallen and Annalise Lecher with seven points each. Abbey Mills and Katelyn Sylvester added another five points each.

Last month, the Lady Raiders defeated Gering (7-10) 43-25. Following Friday's matchup, Sidney will head to Scottsbluff on Saturday. Last week, the Lady Raiders bested the Lady Bearcats (5-8) 39-15.
