Girls roundup: Leyton tops Bayard, Creek Valley wins against Perkins

Leyton avenged its loss to Bayard in the Minuteman Activities Conference Tournament with a 40-30 win on Tuesday.

The Lady Warriors, who lost 32-27 to the Lady Tigers (5-15) in the MAC third place game, took the early lead Tuesday night and never let up. Leyton went up 15-9 in the first quarter and held a 22-18 lead at halftime. The Lady Warriors led 28-24 heading into the fourth quarter, when they outscored the visitors 12-6.

Diedra Waite had a double-double, with a team-high 11 points and 12 rebounds, to lead Leyton (10-7) on the night. Abbe Draper also chipped in with 10 points. Taylor Berner and Natalie Cruise also had nine rebounds each, with Berner adding five steals and four assists.

Leyton returns to play Thursday with a home game against Garden County, and then wraps up regular season play Friday with a home contest against Sedgwick County, Colo.

Creek Valley 48, Perkins County 31

Creek Valley came out strong in a 48-31 win over visiting Perkins County on Tuesday night.

The Storm (11-8) took an 11-4 first quarter lead and went up 24-10 at halftime. They extended their lead to 38-21 heading into the final quarter of play.

Jessie Straber led the Storm offensively with 18 points, while Payje Misegadis added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Andi Ortgies led the Storm with 11 rebounds, while Straber also had eight.

The Storm wraps up regular season play Friday with a home game against South Platte.
