From Sidney to Sydney

Wiedeburg nets summer internship in Australia

A Sidney resident will head to Sydney, Australia, this summer for an eight-week internship program.

Meghan Wiedeburg, a 2013 Sidney High graduate and a junior at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, will be in Australia in a public relations internship with the Global Experiences company.

"I will be in the land down under, loving every second of this once in a lifetime opportunity," Wiedeburg said.

Wiedeburg interviewed with Global Experiences, and based on her interview questions, writings and resume, the academic counselor for the company placed her in Australia. Wiedeburg will have her final interview in the next few weeks and her exact placement in a company will be determined then.

"All I know is it will be in Sydney, Australia," said Wiedeburg, who is thinking of starting a blog called from Sydney to Sidney to journal her travels.

Wiedeburg, a communications major with an emphasis in advertising and public relations, is currently in the process of rasing funds for travel and living expenses.

"I'm already so thankful for this journey I will embark on, but not having to worry about the monetary value would take some weight off my shoulders and make me even more thankful and excited," she said.

Donna Wiedeburg, her mother, said an internship with Cabela's over the Christmas break piqued her interest in getting experience through another internship.

"I think that sparked her to want to do another (internship) and try to narrow down where she wants to work after she graduates," she said.

The internship begins in June and she will be in Sydney for eight weeks.

"As her parents, we are extremely proud of Meghan," said Donna Wiedeburg. "She is a very strong and independent young lady and she knows what she wants in life and we are proud that she is ambitious enough to chase her dreams – even if those dreams take her 8,458 miles away."
